Oculus Rift Stretch Goal Included in Outcast HD Kickstarter

Developer Fresh3D Inc has launched a new Kickstarter campaign to reboot Outcast, an open world action title that launched on PC in 1999. The project is looking to raise $600,000 USD by 7th May 2014 to fund development, which a stretch goal of $1 million promising to add support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset. If successful, then Outcast will be essentially remade with HD visuals and a general presentation and gameplay overhaul.

The project came about after the developers acquired the rights to the original title. The team stressed that this wouldn’t be a simple HD upscaling of the experience, which saw protagonist Cutter Slade exploring the alien world of Adelpha, rather a complete reboot, with improvements made to facial animations and voice acting among other things. It also teased that more may be in the pipeline should the campaign prove successful.

Oculus Rift support isn’t the only stretch goal, either. For $750,000 the team hopes to port the title to Mac and Linux, and would even bring it to next-generation consoles for $1.35 million. At $1.7 million the team would build a new world named Kizaar.

Backers can nab a digital copy of the title, which hopes to launch in October 2015, for $20 for the first 2000 to pledge. After that the price rises to $25. Devoted fans can pledge some $10,000 to get bonuses such as having a 2 minute music track of their own making in the title and dinner with the team behind the title.
