Minecraft Mod Announces Oculus Rift DK2 Support


The popular privately made mod for Minecraft that brought gamers the first experience of the best-selling videogame in virtual reality (VR), Minecrift, is set to receive an update that will allow users to take advantage of the new features included in the second edition of the Oculus Rift development kit, aka DK2. The development of this update is already underway and expected to be made available ‘soon’.

Minecraft is the hugely popular world building simulation which many liken to ‘virtual Lego’. There are no strict objectives in Minecraft and the player is free to explore and experiment at their own pace. Large number of Minecraft players can come together on a single server and cohabit a world, building together or, if they so choose, working against one another. Minecrift offers all of this with one singular exception: the videogame is now played in VR on an Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).


Minecrift is a hugely popular mod for Mojang’s incredibly successful title, which has been available for version 1.6.4 of Minecraft for some time. This new edition of Minecrift will not only add Oculus Rift DK2 support, including positional tracking as standard, but also be optimised for the latest version of Minecraft, 1.7.10.
