EA Will ‘wait and see’ How Big VR Market is Before Committing


Well-known videogame publishers are slowly but surely getting on board with virtual reality (VR) technology. Having first said it would need to see sales of one million units before it got into VR, Ubisoft now has several projects in the works for head-mounted displays (HMDs), while Capcom’s Resident Evil team is also working on them. One publisher that’s yet to commit to VR development, however, is EA. Sadly, it seems like it may still be some time before the company starts to put its resources into the likes of the Oculus Rift. VR vs. EA


Electronic Arts finds itself in an interesting position of late. While the publisher is currently overseeing the development of a range of projects for the new generation of videogame consoles, many of its most interesting titles seem to be far off concepts, with annual sports titles and Battlefield entries filling the gap between the likes of Star Wars: Battlefront, the next Mass Effect and Mirror’s Edge. EA ‘Eager to See’ How Oculus Rift Evolves


Videogame publisher EA has revealed that it is ‘eager to see’ how the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset evolves in the coming years, but can’t commit to producing content for it yet. Company CEO Andrew Wilson said as much in a post-earning financial call this week, calling the work done by headset makers Oculus VR ‘amazing’, but stressing the need for an ‘attractive install base’ before investing in the device.
